The information presented here applies only to Macintosh users running Mac OS version 8 or version 9, and Mac OSX users running WeaveMaker in Classic mode. If you are using Windows 95, 98, NT, 2000, or XP, stop! This doesn't have any relevance for you.
Prior to WeaveMaker version 7.89, released 4/26/02, the memory requirement for WeaveMaker was 12 megabytes of RAM. Starting with 7.89, and continuing for all subsequent releases, this is raised to 40 megabytes.
You don't need to do anything other than be aware of this change and its possible implications for your use of the software. The WeaveMaker installer takes care of all memory allocation settings automatically.
Background
Over time, more features have been added to WeaveMaker, which raises the
amount of memory it requires. In addition, there has been a slow but
steady conversion from 8-bit to 32-bit color support within WeaveMaker.
This gives faster operation and better color accuracy, but it also increases WeaveMaker's memory requirements.
For some time the old 12 megabyte memory allocation for WeaveMaker has been too small. Users had to manually raise the limit to use all the features of WeaveMaker, especially when doing long repeats.
Meanwhile, computers are being produced which have much more capacious memories. Thus it makes sense to increase the amount of memory allocated to WeaveMaker.
What If My Computer Doesn't Have Enough Memory?
If your computer cannot run the new WeaveMaker because
you don't have enough memory, you have two options:
(a) After you install WeaveMaker, manually reduce its memory allocation. Set it somewhere between 12 megabytes (the old limit) and 40 megabytes (the new limit). The larger you make its memory allocation, the larger the repeats you'll be able to use. Whatever you set it to, it will still work fine. All you give up at smaller allocations is the ability to do really long repeats. Also, you may find that you cannot work on more than one design at a time. But so long as you work with small designs, you'll be fine.
(b) Keep using an older version of WeaveMaker (one prior to 7.89). These older versions are still set up for 12 megabytes of memory.
